Front-end testing for a mobile banking app

Tested screens and flows on the front end of a mobile banking app.

Context

Customers use this app for everyday transactions. My job was to make sure screens, form validation, and error messages behaved as designed and specified.

Scope

Form validation on transaction screens
Error and confirmation messages
Layout on different screen sizes

Out of scope

Backend and core banking testing were not part of my role.

Approach

Manual testing on Android devices, with test cases based on requirement documents and screen designs.

The two cards below are illustrative examples. They are rewritten in general terms with dummy data, not copies of real test cases or tickets.

TC-TRF-07

Title: Transfer is rejected when the balance is too low
Precondition: Logged in with a dummy account that has a small balance.
Test data: Dummy account, transfer amount above the balance.
Steps: Open the transfer menu.
Enter a dummy destination account and an amount above the balance.
Tap Continue.
Expected result: An insufficient balance message appears and the user stays on the transfer screen.

Title: Continue button stays enabled when the transfer amount is cleared
Severity: Minor
Priority: Medium
Environment: Staging build, Android
Steps: Open the transfer menu.
Enter an amount, then delete it until the field is empty.
Look at the Continue button.
Expected result: Continue is disabled while the amount is empty.
Actual result: Continue stays enabled and can be tapped.

What I did

I wrote and ran test cases for the front-end screens and reported layout and validation bugs to developers with steps and screen recordings.
